‘Cake’ – Flo Rida

Sometimes it’s nice to get a little icing on the cake. But who needs icing when all you really want is the cake?

That’s the question I have for Flo Rida about his single “Cake,” the song with the chorus sung by Alvin & the Chipmunks. (Not really, but if you listen to it, you’ll get my meanin’.)

10 years after dropping debut single “Low” in 2007, Flo’s music is still catchy and club friendly.

So Flo, answer my question: What is this Cake you speak of?

I didn’t come here to party,
I didn’t come here to stay.
I came to leave with somebody,
I only came for the cake.

Ohhh, so that’s the Cake.

The single is a track from the Atlantic playlist This is a Challenge, released on December 16, 2016, as a joint single featuring 99 Percent, a young Bay Area duo.

And it’s 99 Percent laying down the verse in the second half of the song.

When they wanna go off,
They know when my money show off.
I don’t ever get it one way, yeah,
Spend it and I get it same day, but hey.

It’s all about ballin’, right? What else ya gonna do at the party? Flo Rida’s in his late 30s at this point, but does age really matter when you’re king of the club? Who else pumps out jam after jam, year after year, demanding club play across the country and airplay on mainstream radio far and wide?

There are a few, but Flo has to be somewhere near the top of that list.
